Theatre Americana’s many partners work together to create engaging, inventive, and diverse shows. One of those partners is Kim Eung Hwa and the Korean Dance Academy.
The Academy is a non-profit organization founded in 1980. Their mission is to preserve and share the vibrant art of traditional Korean music and dance. The Academy welcomes people of all ages who wish to learn about the richness of Korean culture.
For 40 years, the Academy’s Founder and Executive Director—Ms. Eung—has provided education, training, and fostered cultural awareness. While her pupils learn choreography, they also discover Korea’s abundant history and culture.
Some of their notable performances include the 1984 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony in LA, the 1994 FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony, and various U.S. presidential election campaigns representing the Korean-American community. These impressive productions show the importance of continuing tradition, and the beauty of Korean culture.
Ms. Han Young Sook and Ms. Kim provide rigorous and foundational training that preserves traditional Korean dance and music without the dilution of modern influences. Their oldest dance dates back to the Three Kingdoms of Korea during the 1st through 6th centuries AD.
Kim Eung Hwa and the Korean Dance Academy will be featured in Broadway Bound on 4/28 and 4/29. Come see their colorful show!
